"Through writing we experience ourselves."

About me

I achieved my Masters degree in Film & Video at the Skillset Academy of Wales in 2005 where I did the sound design on most of the final films and wrote and directed my own short on 16mm film stock.

I have been writing for many years and I have learned much but only now do I feel I am learning the true way to write screenplays. I have embarked on a year long mentoring programme with Total Script Consultinghttp://totalscriptconsulting.com/

I am also learning the Dramatica system of story telling as I believe that this is the best way to write a complete story. If something is this hard to learn it must be good.

I like honest feedback and constructive criticism although sometimes I need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the light but I am always happy with the illumination of new understanding.

When I worked as a sound recorder some lazy sound engineers used to say.

We can fix it in the mix!'

This is nonsense! You can only use what you have captured and there are no quick fixes, later solutions or excuses for bad sound recording. The professional arrives an hour or two early and records wild track, then makes sure they capture all the sound required to make a great sound track for the film.

This is what I have learned about screen writing, if it is not in the script you can't fix it later at the shoot, there are no short cuts and development is a long and sometimes painful process. In the end you get better scripts and so better films that develop from that.
